Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 container (18 oz) refrigerated shredded pork in honey hickory barbecue sauce
  • 4 (3/4-oz) slices pasteurized prepared cheese product, cut in half
  • 4 hoagie buns, split

Steps

  • 1
Melt butter in medium skillet over medium heat. Add onion; cook 3 to 4 minutes or until onion is tender, stirring frequently. Add pork in barbecue sauce; cook 3 to 4 minutes or until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently.
  • 2
Place hoagie buns, cut side up, on ungreased cookie sheet. Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat for 3 to 4 minutes or until toasted.
  • 3
Spoon pork mixture onto bottom halves of toasted buns. Top with cheese slice. Cover with top halves of buns.

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

  • tip 1
Hoagie buns can vary in size. Choose buns that are 6 to 7 inches long for this recipe.
  • tip 2
Melted cheese dip can be used in place of the cheese slices, if desired. Melt the dip as directed on the jar and skip the broiling step. Round onion kaiser rolls can be used in place of the hoagie buns.
